Down with the imperialist attack on Iran !

Class war against imperialism and capitalism !

The joint attack launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against Iran, which has already killed hundreds in Iran and dozens in Lebanon, is strictly an imperialist war of aggression; its aim is not to help the Iranian “people” free themselves from the dictatorship of the mullahs, nor to ward off the “imminent threats” posed by the Islamic regime, as Trump has declared, echoing the lies about Saddam Hussein's “weapons of mass destruction” that were once used to justify the war against Iraq. All military experts agree that Iran does not have the means to threaten the United States, and according to negotiators, Tehran had even agreed to the US demand to give up uranium enrichment. As for the fate of the Iranian people, to see how little the imperialists care, one need only recall the case of Venezuela, where the US sidelined the “democratic opposition” in favor of an agreement with the Chavez regime because it had proven its ability to maintain social order despite the terrible living and working conditions of the proletariat.

Similarly, in Iran, they waited until the regime had brutally crushed the January demonstrations before launching their war: faced with the revolting masses, obscurantist mullahs and modern Yankee capitalists are on the same side because they belong to the same social class of vampires. It is therefore completely futile for the proletariat to imagine, like the Iranian bourgeois and petty bourgeois opposition, that the American and Israeli imperialists have gone to war to establish a democratic regime. Moreover, since his press conference on March 2, Trump has stopped talking about regime change in Tehran as one of the goals of the war.

The real aim of the US-Israeli attack is to reduce the influence of Iran, which, with its oil and gas wealth, large population, and geographical location, is naturally destined to play a leading role in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East. However, since the overthrow of the monarchy during the 1979 revolution and the establishment of the Islamic regime, Iran, once an important pillar of US imperialism (which had installed the Shah in power), has been challenging its regional dominance.

Iran had thus formed a so-called “axis of resistance” with its allies (the Palestinian Hamas, the Lebanese Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, the Syrian government, and the Houthis of Yemen) to oppose the military power of Israel, the American policeman of the Middle East. But in recent years, Israel, with unwavering American support, has systematically and successfully worked to break this axis, while the United States has sought to strangle the Iranian economy by imposing ever tougher sanctions. The current attacks, which aim to bring Iran to its knees, are part of this effort to establish unchallenged American preeminence in the Middle East, a region whose strategic importance is greater than ever at a time of growing inter-imperialist tensions: 20% of liquefied gas and 25% of the world's oil come from the Persian Gulf, mainly destined for Asian countries—notably China, the arch-rival of the United States…

For their part, Western governments are aligning themselves with the United States; the joint statement signed by Germany, Great Britain, and France on the day the war began condemned only... the Iranian attacks! Then, on March 1, the same countries declared that they were ready to take “defensive action” (sic!) “to destroy Iran’s capability to fire missiles and drones at their source”. The British government declared that it was making its military bases in the region available to the US armed forces, while the French government affirmed its determination to support its allies in the Gulf. The European imperialists, who were outraged by US attempts to seize Greenland, invoking respect for “international law,”, forget this as soon as they are no more targeted by Washington: they do not want to be left out of the spoils and excluded from the booty when it comes to reshaping the imperialist order in the Middle East after an Iranian defeat...

The current war is yet another bloody manifestation of the growing tendency of all imperialist powers, large and small, to resort to open violence and military confrontation to defend their interests, whether in Ukraine, the Middle East, Latin America, or elsewhere. This tendency is fueling a global arms race and the development of militarism, and is causing the collapse of the international UN system established after World War II, which was responsible for tempering, as best it could, the conflicts between states. Plagued by ever-increasing economic difficulties, the capitalist world is inexorably heading toward a new world conflict. No appeal for peace between peoples, no denunciation of the “warmongers,” no support for the attacked state against the attacking states can prevent it: it is capitalism as a whole that is the warmonger, it is all bourgeois states that are criminal!

The only force that can oppose it is the proletariat, the designated victim of wars, but at the same time the force whose exploitation sustains capitalism and which therefore has the power to paralyze it by fighting against this exploitation. By reviving the independent struggle for its own class interests, by refusing sacrifices in the name of the homeland or the national economy, by overcoming all divisions of race, nationality, gender, etc., by rediscovering its class weapons and class organization, the proletariat of all countries has the possibility of resisting the capitalists and their seemingly all-powerful states.

And then, drawing behind him the gigantic mass of the oppressed, he will be able to engage in the revolutionary struggle to overthrow capitalism and establish his own international and totalitarian power, the only means of putting an end, along with this mode of production, to the exploitation, injustices, and wars that characterize it. It is for this perspective that we must fight without fear of going against the current today, because it is the key to the future.

Workers of all countries, unite in the class war against capitalism!
